Payroll Based Journal

Today, more than ever before, long-term care facilities are being challenged to do more with less.These resource-strapped facilities will be further challenged by the new Payroll Based Journal (PBJ) reporting requirement.

As part of the Affordable Care Act, long-term care facilities will be required to report staffing and census information to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on a quarterly basis.This data will be used to help determine the Nursing Home Five Star Quality Rating System and is a requirement for all facilities participating in the Medicaid and/or Medicare program.

Accurate submission of PBJ will require facilities to record and report DAILY hours of each direct care worker, including agency and contract workers, along with the job or role performed. Additional information, such as the hire and termination dates of each employee will also need to be included in the report.
